I have set up a few types of contacts for this course that I would like you to use when appropriate. Some of your assignments may require you to use one or more of the following contacts or important links.

Discussion -

For my in-class students, discussion will take place five (5) times over the semester. I will post a discussion topic on the Assignment page of this website with the date of the classroom discussion and also through my SLN – Angel ENV 101 course. You may also be required to post discussions in Angel if we get crunched for time in class.

For my on-line students, you will access the discussion through my SLN-Angel ENV 101 course.

For each of the module discussions, I’ll evaluate the quality of your postings using a 0 - 5 scale. Please note, you must post at least one (1) initial response to the discussion topic and one (1) response to another classmate's posting. The third posting is your choice. You may post as often as you wish, but I will only accept your highest three (3) discussions for a total number of points toward your discussion grade per each module. Please note: The number of quality points I award for each discussion post is not negotiable.

In addition to the points awarded for quality, anyone who responds to the discussion question or article on the first two days the discussion is open will receive an additional point. Discussions posted on the last day are of less value to all that read them. No points are awarded for posts before or after the discussion dates.

Points	Criteria	Examples
0	No posting present during the time allotted for discussion or disrespectful in any way.	"That's a moronic response!" / "I have no idea."
1	The post is irrelevant / It adds no academic value./ No new information is presented./ English skills are weak.	"I agree." / "Good point." / "Thanks for your response."
2	The post contains a response to the article that is not supported by your remarks or too generalized.	"The EPA states fluoride in water is bad."
3	The post contains at least one usable fact or piece of information. The fact or information is available from the article and contains your opinion.	"The article says that...." / "In the article, the subject is . . ." "The author uses chemistry in order to . . ."
4	The post contains at least one usable fact or piece of information that is discussed with thought and scientific reasoning. The post can also contain your opinion if backed by another source.	"On the website I found references to research done on . . ."
5	The post makes a substantial academic contribution. Material is included that is not available just by reading the article. Some issue or concept is clarified. Critical thinking is evident.	"Here is another way to look at this issue..." / "In a critique of this article, research shows that . . ."

Talk with the Professor or Module Questions – For online students, this will allow you to communicate freely amongst your classmates or directly to me. Use proper rules of etiquette, and I do expect you to follow them. This may be a feature you will wish to use for help with homework and/or take home exams. All discussions will be open to everyone. Please realize that I am not sitting at my computer at all times. I may respond to you over the weekend, but that is not to be expected.
