Organisms in a Lake Shore Ecosystem
This laboratory exercise will enable you to observe many of the kinds of
organisms that we have been studying this semester in their natural environment.
You will practice classifying organisms and review the characteristics of some
important taxonomic categories. We will also discuss various aspects of the
ecology of some of these organisms.
For each organism observed.
- State the kingdom and phylum. If the lab manual lists a subphylum or
class, give these also.
- List or describe one characteristic that distinguishes this taxonomic
category. The category should be the smallest one that you listed above. If
you have already described a characteristic for this category for a previous
organism, give a different characteristic.
