Review Questions

1) Be able to state the Domain, Kingdom, and Phylum of each organism studied in the protist lab. Common names (ex- green algae) may be used for phylum names.

2) Be able to identify the genus of the following: Trypanosoma, Euglena, Paramecium, Fucus, Amoeba, Corallina, Chlamydomonas, Volvox, Spirogyra, and Ulva.

2) Identify air bladders and receptacles Fucus. State the function of these structures.

3) Identify the Blade, Stipe, holdfast, and bladder (float) of brown algae. State the function of each of these structures.

4) Be able to identify Trypanosoma and name the disease that it causes in humans.

5) Name the major structural component of the cell walls of green algae. What substances hardens the cell walls of diatoms? What substances hardens the cell walls of coralline red algae?

6) Describe how the following move: diplomonads, euglenids, ciliates, dinoflagellates, chlamydomonas, and volvox.

7) Be able to identify the chloroplast of Spirogyra.

8) Identify daughter colonies in Volvox.

9) Describe how Amoeba moves and feeds. Name the structures that extend from the cell body as it moves through the environment.
