-
-
You will need to make judgment calls pertaining to how to react to
this situation.
- One good idea is
to grab the Chemical Hygiene Plan and get to a safe area, the plan will have
phone numbers for you to use.
- Possible
situations requiring you to use these procedures:
-
- large quantity of concentrated acid e.g. a full 2.5 L bottle of sulfuric
acid;
- - any quantity of a highly toxic substance in a
public area ( hallway, lecture room )
- - ANY situation where you feel like students and
other personnel are in serious danger
-
- For any major
spill:
-
- EVACUATE the area ( Classroom or Building ) Evacuate building by
using the fire-pull THIS WILL ALSO ACTIVATE 911
-
- Confine the spill to your abilities and appropriate safety level.
-
- When the building is clear and you are safe call X337 for the
Chemical Hygiene Officer. If after hours: after you dial 911 –then please call 570 -
7585 for the CHO’s cell phone.
-
- If possible have the chemical name or the MSDS ready for the Fire
Dept and/or the Chemical Hygiene Officer.
